Four Souvenirs for Five Guitars

December 10, 2012

The music is available in the IMSLP. You can download the score and parts here.

Goldman Fantasie for violin, clarinet, cello, and piano

This is an instrumental adaptation of some of the music from the first act of EMMA, an opera I wrote in 2005 that is based on the play by Howard Zinn. The score and parts are available on this page of the IMSLP, and you can listen to it here.

Trio for Violin (or Clarinet), Viola, and Piano

November 5, 2012

February 16, 2014

You can find the score and parts on this page of the IMSLP.

Here's a performance from 2019 by pianist Sarah Wang, violist Martina Weidner, and violinist Nora Markowski-Block.

And here's a performance of the second and third movements with clarinet:

UPDATE: The Moderato movement sounds fantastic when played as a trio with organ, though the piano phrasings need to be "organized."

This performance with organ is by violinist Jagan-Nath Singh Khalsa, violist Kathleen Kalogeras, and organist Rita Corey.

New Divisions on an Old Italian Ground

October 26, 2012

This is part of a project coordinated by Daniel Wolf that involves 24 composers writing new divisions on top of 24 Grounds found in John Walsh's 1706 The Division Flute. You can download the music and listen to a recording (of me playing both parts--with a few foibles and a bit of erratic intonation in the beginning) on this page of the IMSLP.

[UPDATE] Daniel Wolf's complete publication is here.

El Hotel Electrico for Recorder, Oboe, and Bassoon

May 5, 2012

This piece can be used to accompany Segundo de Chomón's 1908 Film El Hotel Electrico, and a second oboe or a piccolo can play the recorder part (as written) if a recorder player is not available. The score and parts are available here.

Here is a performance with piccolo playing the recorder part (what a great idea).

Birthday Piece No. 4 for Viola d'amore and Piano

April 8, 2012

These are the first two pages of my annual Birthday Piece for viola d'amore and piano. This year's piece has 53 measures. You can find the music on this page of the IMSLP and listen to it here. I look forward to the chance, some day, to hear this piece and my other viola d'amore music played by a better viola d'amore player than the one I have in house (which would be me).

Prelude and Aria for String Quartet

March 20, 2012

You can listen to a recording and download the score and parts on this page of the IMSLP.

New Year's Greeting for Two Violas

You can listen here, and download a PDF here. Happy New Year!

This piece begins at 4:03 in this video (it should queue automatically):

Transcription: Pictures at an Exhibition for Strings

I made a transcription of numbers one through nine of Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition for five violas d'amore, and a transcription of "The Old Castle" for string orchestra (three violins, two violas, and cello).
You can find them on this page of the IMSLP.

Transcription: Pastime With Good Company

You can get a PDF of the score and parts for this string orchestra arrangement of Henry VIII's magnum opus here.
