This set of solo piano preludes for the Jewish year of 5775 (our current) has a piece for every month. I wrote it in memory of my brother Marshall Fine who died during Elul of 5774. The music is available on this page of the IMSLP, as is a set of computer-generated audio files.

UPDATE: The Moderato movement sounds fantastic when played as a trio with organ, though the piano phrasings need to be "organized."

This performance with organ is by violinist Jagan-Nath Singh Khalsa, violist Kathleen Kalogeras, and organist Rita Corey.

These are the first two pages of my annual Birthday Piece for viola d'amore and piano. This year's piece has 53 measures. You can find the music on this page of the IMSLP and listen to it here. I look forward to the chance, some day, to hear this piece and my other viola d'amore music played by a better viola d'amore player than the one I have in house (which would be me).

Six Preludes for Piano

I wrote these solo piano pieces between December 30, 2000 and January 1, 2001, making them some of the last pieces of 20th-century music as well as the first pieces of 21st-century music.

I have always been fascinated by Gounod's Ave Maria, and have always wanted to try writing an obbligato of my own on top of a prelude by Johann Sebastian Bach. Mine is for violin and piano, does not have words, and uses two passes of Bach's Prelude BWV 999. A PDF of the music is available on this page of the IMSLP, along with a recording.
